Grad, Rhodes Scholar to attend Stanford Law on Full Scholarship

Aryn Frazier, a 2017 University of Virginia graduate, is one of 69 Knight-Hennessy Scholars from around the world who will receive full funding for graduate study at Stanford University. Frazier will attend Stanford Law School.

Frazier, a Jefferson Scholar who graduated from UVA with a degree in politics and African American and African studies, also has master’s degrees in U.S. history and comparative and international education from the University of Oxford, where she was a Rhodes Scholar. She is the first Knight-Hennessy Scholar from UVA.

Class ion 2019: Marcha Kiatrungrit

Marcha Kiatrungrit has a three-pronged approach toward living life to its fullest: persistence in everything she does, a willingness to always try something new, and determination to never over-think what she does.

It has served her well. The soon-to-be University of Virginia graduate has pursued many passions, including music, sound engineering and acting. Later this month, she will graduate with degrees in engineering science (including minors in computer science and astronomy) and music.

Ashwanth Samuel has racked up an impressive list of achievements during his four years at the University of Virginia, but you wouldn’t know it unless you asked, because that’s just the kind of guy Samuel is; humble and understated. Let the record state that he earned a bachelor’s degree in statistics, with a minor in history, in three years, then returned to Grounds in August to pursue a Master of Science in data science.

With a piece of paper and a Crayon, a young Madeleine Mayhew jotted down a sentence that would guide her decisions through elementary school, middle school, high school and, eventually, college.

It was scrawled during a Sunday school class when a teacher asked Mayhew and other children to make a promise – in writing. Some kids promised to make their bed. Others promised to brush their teeth, or to be nice to their siblings.

Mayhew wrote, “I promise to love my life.”
